FAQ:
Q: What are
the hours of Operation? A: We open every day
at 10:00 AM. We are licensed by the state
of California and the County of San Luis Obispo
to gamble 24 hours per day. We close in
the evening when the game breaks, but play
around the clock as long as there is a
game. Q: What days are you
open? A: We are open every day, including
most holidays.
Q: What is the minimum age to play/work there?
A: You must be 21 years old to play or work in any card room in California.
Q: How and when is “Dealer’s Choice” played? A: Dealer’s Choice
is a mixed poker game where Hold’em, Omaha,
and/or Pineapple may all be played at the
table. The player in the big blind gets to
choose / change the game. A button on the
table in the big blind position identifies the
game. If there are not enough players to
hold a dedicated Hold’em or Omaha game, we will
play Dealer’s Choice. Q: Are there
“kill pots” ? A: Our limit poker games are
typically 3-6. Players in the big blind
position can optionally make any hand 4-8 by
posting an additional dollar on the
button. We do not play a forced kill if
the same player wins two hands in a
row. Q: What is 3-3-6-12? A:
That is a spread-limit game that plays exactly
like 3-6, except the minimum bet for the final
(river) bet is double what it would be in a 3-6
game. Q: Is there a bad-beat
Jackpot?
A: Yes. The poker jackpot is player-funded by
dropping $1 from each pot that
reaches $30 total. Jackpot rules
and eligibility can be found here. Q: Do you ever
have “free rolls”? A: Yes.
Customer appreciation tournaments featuring
large house “add-ons” with no administrative
fees are held bi-monthly. And our daily
morning tournaments are 100% pay-back
tournaments with no fees collected by the
house. Q: Can I call ahead
and reserve a seat for a tournament? What
if I am late? A: The floorperson will
typically hold your seat for the first two
rounds of a tournament. Your chips will be
dealt hands and you will be blinded off.
If you don’t show up, you are still liable to
pay your entry fee. If you are late for a
sold-out tournament, your reserved seat will be
sold unless you have made other arrangements
with the floor. Q: Can I call and
reserve a specific seat at a specific table for
a tournament? A: No. Tournament seating
is assigned randomly. Q: Is smoking
allowed? A: Smoking is banned at the tables
and inside the casino by California law.
Smoking is allowed outside on our enclosed
patio. Q: Do you sell
cigarettes? A: Yes, we are a licensed tobacco
retailer and a variety of cigarettes can be
purchased at the casino. Q: Do you
serve alcohol? A: Yes, we serve a
variety of beer and California wines in the
casino. Q: Can drinks be taken
outside on the patio? A: Yes until
9:00PM. From 9:00PM until 6:00AM, drinks
are prohibited from the patio. Q:
What forms of payment do you accept? A: Cash,
major credit cards, traveler’s checks and local checks can be used
to purchase chips or pay for tournament
entries. We can not extend credit. There is an ATM
available 24-hours a day inside the
casino. Q: We have a regular home
game with friends and co-workers but are
concerned about the security and legality of
home games. What would you charge us to
host our home at the casino? A: We will host
your home game and deal it for free. Call
and talk to the floor manager for
details. Q: We want to have a poker
tournament as a fund-raiser for our charity or
non-profit organization. Can we host the
event at your casino or can your staff run the
tournament at our location? A: Yes.
Effective 1/1/2007 charitable gambling is
regulated in California by AB 839. Details
can be found here. If your event is hosted
inside our casino, AB 839 rules do not apply,
since your tournament is conducted in a licensed
gambling facility. If your tournament is
not held inside a licensed casino, then your
tournament must comply with AB 839. We are
registered with the Bureau of Gambling Control
as a Gambling Equipment/Services Provider, and
can assist with every aspect of your tournament.
Q: Are you legally allowed to
gamble in Oceano? A: Yes, we are
licensed by the State of California Gambling
Control Commission Lic #GEGE 001301 and the
County of San Luis Obispo Lic
#0711853. Q: How come the name is
Ocean’a’ but you are located in Ocean’o’? A:
